ABOUT ME

Matilda Janosi (Tilly) is a London-based, freelance, sustainably minded costume maker/designer. She designs and creates for West End theatre productions, major red carpet events, internationally recognised musicians and private clients.

Born and raised in a small village in Transylvania with a deep appreciation for the environment and a passion for fashion and design, Tilly naturally gravitated to a career where she could combine the two, and make a meaningful impact.

Tilly embarked on her professional journey with a commitment to transforming the fashion and costume design industry. Her early experiences with leading fashion brands allowed her to gain valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within the field.

Tilly’s career took a pivotal turn when she founded her own sustainable fashion label, "TildArt”.  At the heart of TildArt is Tilly’s vision to create a harmonious balance between style and sustainability. Tilly’s keen eye for provocative design, coupled with her unwavering dedication to environmental responsibility sets her apart.

Her innovative approach involves sourcing materials from ethical suppliers, recycling, upcycling vintage pieces, and utilising cutting-edge eco-friendly fabrics. Tilly’s designs not only contribute to the visual narrative of a production but also serve as a powerful statement to the possibilities of sustainable fashion.

In addition to her role as a designer and entrepreneur, Tilly actively engages with the fashion community. She is a sought-after speaker at conferences and events, sharing her inspirational life story and expertise on the importance of eco-conscious choices. Tilly’s most recent public speaking appearance was at the TedX event in Transylvania.

Tilly serves as a beacon of inspiration for those aspiring to combine their love for fashion with a commitment to environmental sustainability. Her journey exemplifies the possibility of creating a thriving career while staying true to one's values, leaving an indelible mark on the future of fashion.

Tilly’s work not only graces the stage, screen and red carpet, but also serves as a catalyst for change in an industry that has historically been resource-intensive. With a keen eye for aesthetics and an unwavering commitment to sustainability, she continues to redefine what is possible in the world of costume design, proving that style, storytelling, and environmental responsibility can seamlessly coexist.

“I love the history of fabric, the stories that are woven within, and to give new life,” - Tilly.

"The first material she ever worked with was a vinyl record. It was baked in the oven to soften and shape it into the very first TildArt bra! "

Marilyn R. Wilson - Writer

"Matilda was born and grew up in Transylvania where recycling is a way of life.  It is this ethos, combined with her talent, that has driven her to create unique fashion products using recycled materials"

"Vegan leather has a slightly fusty, cheap reputation, but Matilda Janosi is about to change all that forever. The London-based designer has just launched new fashion collection that uses upcycled  materials to create some of the sexiest vegan-chic designs we’ve ever seen."

"TildArt’s prices reflect the eco luxury moniker it abides by, yet the idea of owning a unique hand-crafted piece of wearable art is priceless to some."
